GIT Stops Working on Mac OS X

Posted on November 4, 2013 by Thomas in Software Annoyances

Annoying Software PHPStorm was not cloning a new git repo correctly.  Every time I would go through the open from version control process, the window would just disappear.  I figured that the glitch was probably due to having recently installed a good chunk of Mac updates (Mavericks OS X 10.9 / Xcode / normal 25 Java […]

Connect Your Xbox 360 Big Button ‘Scene It’ Remotes to Linux

Posted on October 22, 2013 by Thomas in Linux

This blog is more a story of why I will never manage to clean out storage.  When going through a box I found 4 Xbox ‘buzzers’ and what looked like an USB IR receiver.  After some Googling, I found out that they belong to the trivia game Scene It and while they are not super […]

Walled Gardens Being Defeated by Social Media

Posted on October 19, 2013 by Thomas in Internet, Thoughts

First I should say that in a true captive portal or walled garden situation what I am about to tell you does not hold true; however, having used the same exercise to get free open internet in several locations, in multiple countries, I have to mention it you. But first a little note about captive […]

Cloudflare CDN for Image Hosting Only

Posted on October 9, 2013 by Thomas in Internet

I have been a fan of Cloudflare’s CDN and DNS service.   I have only used the free and pro level services but I have never had a problem until about 3 weeks ago.  Everything seems back to normal but I was annoyed when visitors were receiving a detailed error message showing that a larger […]

Christmas Light Automation with Z-wave

Posted on October 7, 2013 by Thomas in Internet

I was reminded by Macy’s and Lowes that Christmas is right around the corner.  And by around the corner, I mean down the street two blocks and then around the corner.  I plan on using Open-Zwave to control my Christmas lights and Christmas tree again this year.  In a few weeks, when it is more […]

Who am I?

Thomas Loughlin

Just a guy that likes playing with new things on the internet. Graduated with a degree in Bioinformatics from Baylor University but most of my time is spent in the Financial industry.

I firmly believe that everything should be "web-consumable" via web services. I think mashups have many fun years ahead.

Primary reason for writing these blogs is to remind me what I want to play with next and also keep me from forgetting any troubles along the way.
